There is an ongoing perception that oil applied directly to the skin will cause spots or blocked pores or other problems. The reality is some oils are better than others for use in skin care. Plant based oils are the best option and good oils include olive, sunflower, rosehip, jojoba or safflower oil. These are often used as base ingredients in naturally produced organic moisturisers and organic essential oils are then added depending on their particular benefits.

TheSilverLining80 uses Kiehl’s Midnight Concentrate as an example. What is particularly relevant to know is that any oil based moisturiser is very cost effective. You only need a couple of drops each day to nourish your skin. Another example of a oil based blended moisturiser is from mountainroseherbs.com, a US online retailer providing an extensive range of organically produced oils, herbs, teas, spices as well as an intriguing skin care range. The Rose Facial Oil recommended here is full of beneficial oils including rosehip which is great for cellular regeneration, calendula (calming), olive (nourishing), neroli (uplifting and cleansing) and lavender which is an antiseptic. The base oil rosehip is supplemented with several essential oils each with its own nourishing properties.

Alternatively, you can use a single skin friendly organic oil as a moisturiser. Personally I am using pure organic jojoba oil as a body moisturiser. Suitable unrefined oils will hydrate and also nourish your skin with inherent vitamins and minerals and fatty acids.

Consider what you want from an oil. Different oils have different purposes. For example sea buckthorn oil is a therapeutic oil which helps calm distressed skin suffering ailments such as dermatitis, eczema, generalised itchiness and scarring.

It’s easy to make your own blended oil, once you identify which oils are right for you and your skin. For anyone suffering from acne, tea tree oil is an excellent ingredient. Add a couple of drops of tea tree to a base oil such as jojoba, don’t use it neat onto the skin. Pure facial oils are a highly effective and economical addition to your organic beauty regime.
