Organic baby food is the best start in life you can give your baby, says Dr Alan Green. The organs and metabolic settings are formed by, and in response to, the food you give your baby. This applies to food consumed by the mother whilst pregnant, and continues after the baby’s birth.

Dr Green advises that nutrient levels in foods grown through conventional agriculture are definitely declining. That means the levels of protein, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients in conventional foods are much lower today than 50 years ago. He advises, “Don’t skimp with food for your baby. You don’t want foods with declining nutrients from depleted soil.” Also by feeding your baby with over processed baby foods, it is more likely your baby will develop into a toddler or child that prefers (or will only eat) processed foods.

If he had to pick just one time to eat organic foods, Dr Greene says it would be from conception to about 3 years old. Of course, this is the time when our bodies and brains are developing at a faster rate than at any other time in life. Also our internal systems such as our metabolism and immune systems are being set for life.

According to the EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency), babies are more vulnerable to toxins than adults. This is partly because of their developing immune systems, but also pound for pound babies eat far more than adults. So any toxic or chemical residues will have a greater effect on a baby. The EPA has determined that, on average, carcinogens are ten times more potent for babies than for adults and in some cases this figure rises to sixty five times more potent. Apparently the EPA has a policy for carcinogens in food regarding babies, but as yet has no policies relating to hormone, neuro or metabolic disruptors.

As an example, Dr Greene comments on mounting evidence that identifies a connection between chlorpyrifos, a common insecticide, and changes in babies mental and nervous development. The higher the exposure to the insecticide, the higher the risk of developmental delays, decreased intelligence, ADHD and other concentration issues. Studies also show that by eating mainly organic food, you can virtually eliminate a child’s exposure to chlorpyrifos. 1

The video closes by explaining that currently only 0.5% of the world’s crop land is used for organic farming. He invites us to increase this percentage for future generations. How do we do this? By buying organic food for our ourselves, our children and our babies.
