Organic skin care and hair care products are lovely to use. They don’t harm your body because there are no synthetic chemicals. They don’t harm the environment from production processes or waste water for the same reason. However if your budget doesn’t currently stretch to spending the extra, why not make your own?

Here’s a simple recipe for olive oil and honey hair conditioner from loveyourlocs.com. It uses entirely natural ingredients, most of which you’ll already have in your kitchen. You’ll need to buy some aloe vera gel and some vegetable glycerine. These can often be found in health food shops and pharmacies. Personally I prefer all my ingredients to be organic. You can find organic versions of each ingredient online if not in the shops.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel (dietary kind)
  • 2 tbsp of vegetable glycerine
  • 1 tbsp of honey
  • 4 cups of water (distilled water is preferable)
  • Essential Oils

Simply add the ingredients one by one. After you’ve added the honey, stir the mixture vigorously. Pour the mixture into a bottle. Add the water and your chosen essential oils (I love Neroli) and shake vigourously. You can decant into smaller bottles for ease of application.

Voila! A beautifully effective conditioner made from household ingredients. Organic living at its best. Let us know how you got on.
