GM Crops, a Game of Russian Roulette
The wish to eat healthy natural food is a key component of organic living. The alternatives range from unpleasant to downright dangerous. This hard hitting clip from Greenpeace reveals the reality about GM foods.
One of the most shocking points raised in the clip is the fact that because GM experimentation takes place mainly outdoors, the effects cannot be controlled. GE crops can self replicate and the wind can take them to combine with other neighbouring crops. How long will it take before we get to the stage where we don’t know which crops have been contaminated with GM seeds and which haven’t?
The propaganda machine has been readily employed by the GM producers who would have you believe that GM results in higher crop yields. Check the clip out to find what really happens and how GE crops push farmers towards greater debt and financial dependency on the GM seed providers.
Because the GM manufacturers also produce the relevant pesticides for their GM crops, they are in the money again when farmers need to buy more and more pesticides to stop the natural world encroaching on their fields. The farmers yet again are spending more and more money they can ill afford. The effect on the environment and conventional farming is disastrous. Actually it’s so appalling one wonders how this GM pox was ever let loose on the world.
The claim that GM food is needed to feed the world is a lie. There is enough food to feed the world. It’s the distribution of food that is the problem.
The corporate monopoly enjoyed by Monsanto, the world’s largest genetically engineered crop manufacturer, is rarely mentioned. Monsanto actually has approximately 90% of the GM market share, according to the clip.
GM foods and crops genuinely threaten organic living. Yet, ironically, it is an organic lifestyle that can effectively reduce the threat of GM crops and GE focused corporates. As the video says ‘Get Informed, get involved.’
