This is a cheerful and extremely useful clip on how to make your own moisturising cream. Lovely to watch and simple to make, I would recommend this making this cream as a gorgeous antidote to the grey skies and damp weather we have here right now. Equally if you live in the Southern Hemisphere it is the right time of year for you to make the infused flower oils described. Choose organic ingredients to feed your skin with a naturally powerful beauty boost.

Base Ingredients are:

  • 2 tablespoons of oil – try safflower, almond or apricot kernel
  • 1 heaped teaspoon of virgin raw cold-pressed coconut oil
  • ½ oz or 15g of beeswax
  • 5 drops of Evening Primrose Oil (add more oil to thin the cream if you prefer)1

Additional and optional ingredients include:

  • 10 drops of Essential Oil – try Ylang Ylang or Geranium or Jasmine or Neroli2

If you have a garden or window boxes and grow Tagetes (Marigolds) or Calendula why not make your own infused oil? Watch the video to see how easily it’s done. You can also purchase dried organic flowers online from companies such as aromantic.co.uk/ or motherherbs.com. Calendula flowers have been used to treat skin conditions for hundreds of years. They are particularly good for distressed skin and have been used to help skin conditions such as eczema, sunburn, minor injuries, warts and athlete’s foot. Calendula has anti-inflammatory and healing properties and is beautifully gentle on skin that it is irritated. This is something I shall be making for my son who has severe eczema.

Learning how to make beautifully natural creams that feed your skin is one of the joys of learning to live a more organic lifestyle. It’s fun, doesn’t cost the earth (either literally or metaphorically) and benefits you and your family. Just lovely.

  1. This recipe has been adapted from one found in Valerie Ann Worwood’s Book on Aromatherapy, which also comes highly recommended. []
  2. Just be careful when using essential oils on babies or young children – do a patch test first []
